Wellness Examinations:  The emphasis of routine annual care has historically focused on vaccinations.  At Allen Veterinary Centre, our veterinarians stress the importance of physical examinations which ensure that your pet receives a proactive approach to his or her health.  Any problems detected can be addressed early.  Vaccinations will be customized to your pet’s lifestyle and risk level.

Senior Pet Care:  Like our approach to wellness, we feel that as our pets age, we need to modify our approach to their specific needs.  Frequently they require special diets or medications to maximize their health and comfort.  We offer a variety of diagnostics such as blood tests, ECGs, blood pressure, and radiographs (x-rays) to detect and monitor different organ systems.  Ask us about our senior package and discount.

General Examinations:  Unfortunately our pets sometimes fall ill.  It is our goal to provide the very best care for your pets.  We accomplish this by getting an accurate history, performing a thorough physical exam, offering appropriate diagnostics, and following through with treatment.  We want your pets to be healthy and happy as much as you do!

Surgery:  Our surgical suite is equipped with the latest surgical devices and monitoring equipment.  All animals are given a pre-surgical exam and anesthetics are chosen for each individual patient.  Our veterinarians and our staff strongly believe in providing pain-management before, during, and after surgery.  Our surgeries include and are not limited to: spays and neuters, declaws (front paws only), tumor excisions, laceration repairs, exploratories, foreign body removals, and cystotomies (bladder stone removal).

Anesthesia and monitoring:  Anesthetic medications are selected individually for each patient.  To ensure proper airway, we intubate our patients with a cuffed endotracheal tube and maintain anesthesia with inhalant anesthetics.  Anesthetized patients are monitored with an Ap-Alert (respiration monitor), Pulse Oximeter (heart rate and blood oxygen saturation), and ECG monitor (electrical conduction in the heart).  Body temperatures are closely monitored and maintained.

In-house Laboratory:  State-of-the-art equipment is available on-site to aid in treatment and diagnosis of your pet with results obtained within minutes.  We routinely perform complete blood counts, blood chemistries, electrolytes, heartworm tests, fecal exams, Feline Leukemia/FIV tests, Parvo tests, and microscopic analysis of tissue samples to aid in diagnosis. We also are associated with a veterinary reference laboratory for all other testing not available on-site.

Imaging:  We use imaging technology to diagnose and monitor disease.  Radiographs (x-rays) are used not only to evaluate bones and joints but also allows us to see organs in the body such as the stomach, liver, kidneys, and intestines.  Radiographs can also give us a great amount of information about the heart and lungs.  We also have access to board certified veterinary radiologists for more detailed interpretation of complicated cases.  Ultrasonography is also available through a referral service.

Referrals:  Just as with human medicine, sometimes our cats and dogs require specialized care.  We work very closely with board certified veterinary surgical and medical specialists through a referral service.  See our links page for further information.

Dentistry:  All dental work is completed under anesthesia to avoid discomfort and to better evaluate the teeth, especially under the gum line.  We utilize an ultrasonic cleaner and polisher.  If more extensive work is required owners are contacted to discuss the alternatives such as x-rays, extraction, medical treatment or referral to a veterinary dental specialist.  We also offer an        extensive array of products to help with at-home dental care.

MicrochippingHomeAgain chips can be implanted in your cat or dog to provide permanent identification of your animal.  Occasionally, light anesthesia or local anesthesia may be required during implantation.  Oftentimes, we place the microchip at the same time as an elective procedure such as a spay or neuter.  The microchip has a unique serial number that can be identified with a special scanner which veterinary clinics and shelters possess.  The number is matched to your contact information from a database that is maintained by HomeAgain.
